Welcome to Rethink You Counselling

Hello, my name is Jo Ahmed (MBACP). I offer face to face, online and telephone therapy for individuals seeking counselling. This can be short or long term, or simply some ad-hoc sessions when needed.

Rethinking You

It may be that you’re feeling unsettled by aspects of your life encompassing the past, present and future or a mixture of all. Stress, relationships, anxiety, work-related issues can all impact on the way we think, feel and exist as a whole. Therapy and counselling can be an opportunity to process, understand and talk about what is going on for you, and of what’s happening both internally and externally.

Finding the right therapist for you is paramount to the therapeutic relationship and is conducive to feeling supported and accepted. I aim to foster the right conditions which will help you towards greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and wellbeing.

I work with general life and common mental health problems such as depression, low mood & anxiety.

Counselling For Chronic Illnesses

Living with or caring for someone who has a long term condition is often overlooked. I work with clients who are navigating these realities.

Burnout, Work Anxieties & Bullying

Often we are unaware how work related stressors can deeply affect mental & emotional well being.

Fees & Availability

  • Fees: Sessions are £65 for fifty minutes. Concessions available for those on low incomes and students. I also work with organisations and offer corporate rates; please enquire for further details.

  • Availability: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm and 7pm – 9pm. Weekend appointments are limited, however please do ask for availability. Sessions can be held in English or Bengali/Sylheti.

  • Location: For online and telephone work sessions I work across the UK and internationally (please enquire). For in person sessions I am based in Buckhurst Hill, East London and Essex.

  • Payment: Bank transfer or cash.

  • Cancellations: Please provide a minimum of 48 hours if you are unable to attend so we can rebook, or the full fee is charged.

If I feel I can help you and you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor, we can book your first appointment. I’ll send you a contract to sign and a brief form to fill in. Sessions will take place only when the contract and form is returned along with payment.

We would then normally book sessions in on the same time and day each week, but I appreciate there may be times where this is not possible. If sessions take place via Google Meet, I will email you the link where you can access your online session. If our session is via telephone, then I will call at the arranged time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer low cost therapy?

Yes; I have some sessions available reserved for those who are unable to pay the full amount. I also have a flat rate of £45 for counselling students.

Do I need counselling?

Only you can know if you need therapy. It may have been suggested to you but ultimately the decision is yours. Counselling is often the first time that someone may feel genuinely listened to and understood - this alone can be transformative.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, your sessions are confidential. Please note that under certain circumstances I have ethical and statutory obligations to share with necessary organisations if I believe you are at serious risk of harm to yourself or others. More information on confidentiality are outlined in the counselling contract. Measures are in place to protect your personal data, in accordance with GDPR.

How many sessions of counselling will I need?

The number of sessions can vary as it depends on the needs and of every individual. Most people require between 6 to 8 sessions, however you can have less or more depending on what feels right for you. We can review your progress and go from there. You can of course stop therapy at any time, however I do encourage a natural winding down where possible to avoid any abrupt ends.

What if I want online and telephone counselling?

I offer both online and telephone counselling. I do this as I understand how it can be difficult to access in person therapy for a number of reasons. It can also just be a personal choice and easier to fit into your schedule.

Do you offer counselling in other languages?

Yes, I can conduct sessions in Bengali/Syhleti. Please contact me for further information.
